The United Nations (UN) General Assembly will not vote on the proposed Resolution on Srebrenica on May 2, as initially planned, according to the Bosnia and Herzegovina permanent representative to the UN, Zlatko Lagumdzija.

Speaking to regional TV N1 BiH, Lagumdzija has said that the proposed resolution, seeking that July 11 be recognized globally as the official International Day of Remembrance for the victims of the Srebrenica genocide, would not be up for vote in the UN General Assembly on May 2, as initially scheduled, because the text will undergo revision, in case some UN members states have further suggestion.

“The General Assembly will definitely convene sometime after May 6, depending on its agenda. The Bosnia and Herzegovina mission to the UN took part in making this decision for to give the necessary time to those who need it,” Lagumdzija explained.

The proposed resolution, which also urges for condemnation of any attempt to deny genocide or glorify war criminals, is spearheaded by Germany and Rwanda, and backed by some 20 countries, including the four countries in the region - Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, North Macedonia, and Slovenia, as well as the US, the Great Britain, France, Italy, and others.
