On May 10, members of the Serbian parliament passed amendments to the Law on the unified electoral roll, which prohibit citizens who change their residence from voting in their new area within 11 months of the change.
According to the majority of votes, the legislation will come into force as soon as it is published in the Official Gazette, not after eight days.
The amendments to the Law were agreed during parliamentary talks between MPs from the ruling parties and the opposition parties that are running in the June 2 Belgrade local election. The majority of MPs also backed a proposed decision on appointing the members of and deputies to parliamentary committees and a proposed decision on amending the decision on the composition of the Committee on Stabilization and Association.
After the break-up of the Serbia Against Violence coalition, the opposition parties that will run in the June 2 election in Belgrade are the Green-Left Front, the Democratic Party, the Ecologic Uprising, the People's Movement of Serbia, the Free Citizens Movement and the New Face of Serbia, gathered in an alliance called We Choose to Fight. The Freedom and Justice Party, Serbia Center and the Together party are against running.
