A total of 89 MPs voted to dissolve the 120-seat Kosovo assembly at a special session on Aug. 22, paving the way for snap parliamentary elections, after Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj’s resignation last month.
Previously, 103 lawmakers voted to pass the Law on the ratification of IPA 2018 Agreement with the EU, worth more than EUR90 million.
The initiative for the assembly dissolution, presented by Democratic Party of Kosovo whip Memli Krasniqi, was not put up for debate, but only whips of the parliamentary parties declared their position on the initiative.
The Kosovo president has ten days to schedule early parliamentary elections.
On Aug. 22, Pristina daily Koha Net reported that that early parliamentary elections would be held on Oct. 6.
The daily’s source said that based on the Aug. 21 meeting of Kosovo President Hashim Thaci and Central Election Commission President Valdete Daka, Thaci would schedule early parliamentary elections right after the disbanding of the assembly.
According to the source, Thaci said that in case the assembly was dissolved on Aug. 22, he would on Aug. 23, and no later than Aug. 26 call snap parliamentary elections for Oct. 6.
