Gojkovic: All Should Be Represented in Election Campaign

Parliament speaker Maja Gojkovic on Oct. 15 said that the parliament was ready to organize debates focusing on the media environment and the work of the Regulatory Authority of Electronic Media (REM) for to ensure representation of all in the upcoming election campaign, according to a release from Gojkovic’s office.

In a meeting with OSCE Parliamentary Assembly President George Tsereteli, Gojkovic spoke about the ongoing process aimed at improving the climate for the forthcoming elections and the work of the parliament.

Tsereteli said that a dialogue with political parties was very important for the elections, adding that the OSCE was ready to help in overcoming challenges and improving the legislation. He added that in the coming period, the focus would be on the elections, the election law and the media environment.

He also said that boycotting elections had always been damaging to those boycotting.

Gojkovic also spoke of improving mechanisms for the parliament’s work, noting that based on a report by the European Commission, the parliament had adopted a number of measures to better its work.

Tsereteli said that the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly wished to see stronger and more efficient national parliaments that were able to tackle problems in the society.

They also discussed the importance of the dialogue within the session of the Inter-Parliamentary Union in Serbia and regional cooperation.
