Darko Saric, sentenced to 15 years in jail for cocaine smuggling, asked a former interior minister, Ivica Dacic's chief of staff to check if he might have been under investigation, the KRIK portal said on Dec. 23.
KRIK carries the transcripts of phone conversations between Saric, his associate, Rodoljub Radulovic and Minister Dacic's then chief of staff, Branko Lazarevic, who answered the question about the investigation by promising to "check again."
The call took place in mid-November, 2008, and "the nicknames they were using and the way they talked to each other indicate a close relationship going back a while.
"The Prosecutor's Office found these calls a key piece of evidence that confidential information leaked from Dacic's office to the Mob. The evidence wasn't used in court though, because Judge Danko Lausevic decided to strike the evidence and seal it, and it would never reach the public," the portal reported.
