On Jan. 21 Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said that the biggest complaint that he heard in Davos was Serbia's procurement of weapons and Russian at that which he replied to "quite strongly and convincingly" that they were for the country's defense and that Serbia could afford to buy Russia's cutting edge S-300 and S-400 systems but that it hasn't.
"We are not buying offensive weaponry and we are not buying only from Russia. We do not want to be easy prey to someone, as we once were," Vucic said, commenting on the round table that he participated in.
As for the political subjects that he discussed during encounters with officials in Davos he recalled that Serbia had been on the European road for twenty years and that he had inquired what the possibilities were for Serbia to gain membership in the EU if a compromise was reached with Kosovo. "I did not get a direct answer," Vucic said.
He added that in a discussion with U.S. presidential aide for security Robert O'Brien which was very friendly, open and honest, and that he had reiterated that Serbia would like to host Donald Trump.
He added that he had not had "a separate encounter" with Kosovo President Hashim Thaci in Davos and that they had both attended an informal gathering. Vucic said that he met with Croatian President Andrej Plenkovic and called the discussion was "open and cordial."
