Movement of Free Citizens leader Sergej Trifunovic sent a letter on Jan. 24 to the Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) who played the role of mediator in a dialog between Serbia's government and opposition about the requirements of a free and fair election, Tanja Fajon and Vladimir Bilcik.

Trifunovic pleaded to the European Parliament (EP) and the European Commission (EC) to set up an independent working group of lawyers to prepare a report on the freedom of the media in Serbia, and the operation of the media community in the country, and analyze the state of the "imprisoned state and institutions."

The party leader recalled in the letter that "reports by the European Commission, alongside non-papers on Chapters 23 and 24, are generally negative, which is why Serbia's path to the EU is so slow."

Trifunovic also explained the movement's decision to boycott the upcoming parliamentary election in Serbia, recalling that the movement had participated in all of the rounds of dialog which was initiated by his letter to David McAllister last summer.
