A Business Support Network (BSN) coordinator, Dragoljub Rajic, said on March 11 that businesspeople had to invent measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus alone, since the state had suggested none.

"Croatia has banned all public events, first those rallying 1,000 people, and then reduced the figure to 100. Similar measures have been taken in Hungary, Bulgaria and elsewhere in the neighborhood," Rajic said to BETA.

Serbia has made no such move so far, and businesspeople are forced to organize themselves alone, he said. Some IT firms have ordered their HR staff to plan for a situation involving a higher number of infected people, Rajic explained.

"It is easier to organize service providers, as staff can often work at home, but where physical presence is required, as in a production plant, it can be very difficult. I know that a plant director wanted to buy face masks for his workers, but couldn't find them on the market," Rajic said.

According to the BSN coordinator, the national economy is very sensitive to delays, which is why measures other than handwashing need to be in place.
