The project that will help to connect Rijeka and Budapest via rail is currently the biggest infrastructure project in Croatia. The total value of the project, with VAT, is over HRK3bn (EUR400m).
Representatives of Turkish company Cengiz Insaat Sanayi ve Ticaret A.S. and Croatian Railways Infrastructure have signed at the government HQ in Zagreb a contract on the reconstruction of the existing and construction of a new section of railway on the Mediterranean Corridor, worth HRK2.418bn (EUR324m), in the presence of the Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic and Minister of Maritime Affairs, Transportation and Infrastructure Oleg Butkovic.
The contract pertains to the section Krizevci - Koprivnica - state border. The signatories are Croatian Railways Infrastructure President Ivan Krsic and a representative of the Turkish company's management, Muhamet Cengiz, accompanied by Turkish Ambassador to Croatia Mustafa Babur Hizlan.
PM Plenkovic said that this is an important strategic project for Croatia, adding that the construction plan of 42 kilometers in 42 months, i.e. a kilometer per month, is ambitious. He underscored that the projects of reconstructing and building the entire Croatian portion of the Mediterranean Corridor are 100% financed by EU grants worth EUR1.8bn.
