The director of the National Association of Travel Agencies of Serbia (YUTA), Aleksandar Senicic, stated on April 22 that this year's losses in tourism could add up to around one billion euros because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
"The total damage in tourism, including losses of agencies and all those who work in tourism, could reach around a billion euros, without the losses of Air Serbia," Senicic told BETA, adding that 300 to 400 million alone was lost due to cancellations of visits of foreigners by the end of June.
Senicic said travel agencies would not be allowed to open for business in the first phase of alleviation of the Serbian government's curfew measures, and that the issue would be discussed after the May holidays.
In his words, travel agencies are facing serious problems and many will struggle to survive. He also said that, besides the state's "general" assistance to commerce, they expected additional aid packages for the tourism sector, as one of the most endangered sectors of the economy.
