Last week’s arrest of a famous Belgrade lawyer, Cedomir Kokanovic, sparked a public outcry and strong criticism by his peers, warning that it might be a dangerous precedent. The arrest of Kokanovic, detained on remand for a crime of insult, for which no prison sentence has been provided by law, raised suspicions that the lawyer well-known for organizing protests and opposing the authorities might be persecuted.
