Demo Berisa, president of the citizens' association Matica Albanaca Srbije, is the first ethnic Albanian to have been appointed a minister in Serbia since the introduction of a multiparty system. On the other hand, Berisa is not considered an authentic representative of Albanians in Serbia, who have distanced themselves from him, strongly criticizing his positions. The reason is that Berisa is Albanian by birth, but Serbian by allegiance, given his career and the views he shares publicly.
