Over the past 24 hours, eight more people have died from consequences of coronavirus infection in Serbia, the government's Crisis Headquarters announced on Aug. 3.
Epidemiologist Predrag Kon told the Crisis HQ press conference that the total number of deaths from the infection so far was 598.
The number of COVID-19 patients currently being treated in hospitals is 3,554, of whom 146 are on ventilators, Kon said, adding that 7,168 samples had been tested, of which 258 were positive. Since the outbreak of the epidemic 26,451 people have been infected.
Kon also said that since July 13 Belgrade had been seeing fewer citizens coming to COVID-19 clinics with symptoms of respiratory diseases and that the number of medical examinations was decreasing, too. He added that going to public swimming sites definitely carried a risk because there were certainly people who were infected with the coronavirus and did not even know it.
