U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has welcomed the renewal of the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue brokered by the EU, after a long hiatus, and called on both sides to demonstrate flexibility and creativity in efforts to overcome their differences.

In the latest six-month report on UNMIK operations in Kosovo, which will be on the U.N. Security Council’s agenda on Oct. 21, Guterres welcomed the commitment of the Kosovo leadership to combating the pandemic, the improvement of the dialogue with Belgrade and EU integration.

He called on the Kosovo institutions and international stakeholders to extend full support and cooperation to the effort of the Kosovo Specialist Prosecutor’s Office as it “is crucial for a peaceful future of Kosovo.”  “The renewed dedication to normalization of relations (between Belgrade and Pristina) is evident and I hope that it will be maintained until a comprehensive solution is achieved,” it is said in the report covering the period from March 16 to Sept. 15, 2020.
