In a meeting with the Head of the U.N. Office in Belgrade, Simona-Mirela Miculescu, on Nov. 17, Foreign Minister Nikola Selakovic pointed to the importance of the U.N. for the protection of Serbia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and its cultural and religious heritage in Kosovo and Metohija.
Selakovic underlined the importance of UNMIK’s activities and its continued presence in Kosovo “in order to create conditions for a normal and dignified life of the Serbs and members of other non-Albanian communities,” according to a release from Serbian Ministry.
According to Selakovic, UNMIK should remain engaged in all issues of importance for consistent implementation of U.N. Security Council Resolution 1244, with unchanged scope of activity and mandate.
The minister also pointed to the importance of continued deliberation on the Kosovo issue at U.N. Security Council sessions, adding that Belgrade paid much importance to the U.N. Secretary-General’s reports on UNMIK’s work, which were necessary to present as objectively as possible the facts and assessments of the real situation.
