Professor Djordje Pavicevic of the Faculty of Political Sciences in Belgrade believes that Serbia’s dire political situation is certainly a call to action “for those who believe that the path the [Serbian] authorities are taking the country down leads to the abyss, and that [this path] is soon to become one with no return.”

“This fact shouldn’t just turn us to thinking strategically about how to replace the bad government, but also to what kind of country the people want to live in,” Pavicevic, who has recently become the coordinator of the Political Council of the Don’t Let Belgrade D(r)own initiative, has said.

When asked about the change of the election conditions, he replied that the EU support is important, but that “the EU won’t change the authorities in Serbia nor will it make Serbia a fair and just country.”

“Aided by its EU partners, the opposition can improve the election conditions, but that doesn’t mean that they can achieve any significant election results with this kind of help only,” Pavicevic said for the Jan. 14 issue of the Nedeljnik weekly.
