In the last 24 hours, 37 people have died of COVID-19  in Serbia, bringing the death toll of the epidemic to 5,991,  an Oct. 18 statement said.

According to the Serbian Institute of Public Health, 2,069 new cases have been confirmed. There are 6,879 patients currently hospitalized with COVID-19 of whom 218 are on ventilators. Since the outbreak in Serbia, 662,368 people tested positive for the coronavirus.

Branislav Tiodorovic, a member of the COVID Crisis Headquarters, said on April 18 that the epidemiological numbers were not improving at the expected rate.

Tiodorovic told the Serbian Broadcasting Corporation that the state of the epidemic had gone from being an emergency to something unfavorable, and that there had been a significant reduction in new cases. "We have a decrease in the number of first examinations by two to three times in some areas. However, we still have a high number of fatalities," Tiodorovic noted.
