On June 21, the French Institute in Serbia celebrated its 70th year in Belgrade, with Serbian Minister of Culture and Information Maja Gojkovic present at the ceremony. Gojkovic stressed the long history of friendly ties between Serbia and France, with culture always an important, integral part, the ministry said in a press release.

Gojkovic noted that many Serbian cultural institutions and events had for years nurtured a partnership with the French Institute, singling out Francophonie Month, taking place every March.

"The French Institute is so dynamic and vital after 70 years that it guarantees the cooperation will contribute significantly to the promotion and greater visibility of Novi Sad and all of Serbia in Europe in the course of the next year," the minister said.

The French Institute in Serbia is part of a global network of over 100 institutes, the institution's website notes. The Institute's mission is to use culture, education, innovation and knowledge to make new pathways between France and Serbia.
