Epidemiologist Predrag Kon said on July 26 that health workers are required to be immunized against diseases they have never suffered, which pertains to contagious diseases, such as COVID-19.

Kon told Pink TV that it is unacceptable from an ethical standpoint that during a pandemic “you go to a hospital for entirely different reasons, and contract [COVID-19],” and added that “this was acceptable when there were no vaccines,” which is not the case now.

He pointed out that over 2 billion people across the world have been vaccinated against the virus so far, but that the misconceptions about the vaccine, such that it is dangerous, keep receiving the spotlight.

On the same day, the state secretary of the Serbian health ministry, Mirsad Djerlek stated that Serbia cannot reach satisfactory immunization levels by the end of August, when the decision how the country’s educational institutions are to operate in the next school year are to operate, and added that the vaccination scope needs to be expanded.

Djerlek also warned that it is “very bad and risky to go, un-immunized, to vacation and mingle with the citizens of other countries where the epidemiological situation is very bad.”
