The coordinator at the vaccination site at the Belgrade Fair, Zoran Bekic, on Aug. 24 said that the inoculation process in Serbia had slowed down, but added that 29,000 Covid-19 booster shots had been administered.

“Now, have been giving between 3,000 and 5,000 doses on a daily basis, which is a small number as when the inoculation process was at its peak, we were giving more than 82,000 doses per day,” Bekic told state public broadcaster RTS.

Bekic said that the booster shot was improving immunity and was recommended particularly to those with weaker immunity. “If a person who has received two doses has not contracted the coronavirus, then the booster shot should be the same brand as the initial vaccines as it is obvious that they have produced effects,” Bekic specified.

He also said that it “is the right time” to introduce Covid passes.

The Batajnica Covid Hospital director, Tatjana Adzic Vukicevic, has said that the symptoms of coronavirus patients were now more severe than in any of the previous waves, adding that more than 70 percent of the patients required oxygen therapy.

She told the Aug. 24 issue of Belgrade daily Alo that a large number of young people had been hospitalized, more than 90 percent of whom had not been vaccinated.
