Over the past 24 hours eight people died in Serbia of the coronavirus bringing the death toll to 7,226, an Aug. 24 statement said.

According to the Serbian Institute for Public Health, 2,216 new cases were registered out of 15,656 tested samples. A total of 1,007 patients have been hospitalized while 44 are on ventilators.

Since the outbreak of the epidemic, 4,931,082 people have been tested of whom 746,366 were positive for the virus.

Epidemiologist Branislav Tidorovic said on Aug. 24 that the authorities in many countries were recommending the vaccination of children before the school year starts, and that "we can expect that this stance will be adopted here as well." He also said that the vaccination of children could not be expected if education workers were unvaccinated and that recommendations for vaccination applied to all health workers.
