A forthcoming summit between the European Union and the West Balkans will not produce important decisions, but will re-affirm the European outlook of the region and Brussels' commitment to the West Balkan six, participants in a panel discussion at the 21 Belgrade Economic Forum said on Oct. 4.

Vladimir Bilcik (BETAPHOTO/MILAN OBRADOVIC/DS)

Vladimir Bilcik, the European Parliament's rapporteur for Serbia, told the panel discussion, titled "EU-West Balkans: What We Can Expect from the Summit in Slovenia," that the enlargement process was standing still and that there were "reasons and situations" for that both in the region and within the EU.

Bilcik said that he expected the summit, to be held at Brdo near Kranj on Oct. 6, to produce "clear signals" as to the European prospects of the West Balkans, which he said must be "tangible."

Emanuele Giaufret (BETAPHOTO/MILOS MISKOV/MO)

Head of the European Union Delegation to Serbia Emanuele Giaufret said this week's summit offered the possibility for confirming the West Balkans' European outlook and launching certain activities, primarily toward implementing an economic and investment plan.
