In the last 24 hours, 49 people died of COVID-19 in Serbia, while 2,180 have been confirmed newly infected with the virus that causes the disease, the Serbian Ministry of Health said in a press release on Nov. 29.
Currently 4,134 people are hospitalized with COVID-19 in Serbia, of whom 203 are on ventilators. Since the beginning of the epidemic in Serbia, the disease has claimed 11,637 lives, while 252,573 people have been infected with the virus.
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said on Nov. 29 that it was a matter of days when the first case of infection with the new, omicron variant of SARS-CoV-2 would be found in Serbia.
If the new strain has been confirmed in Austria, he stressed, it is a matter of days when it will be found in Serbia. According to him, he expects a "supervaccine" in five to six months to solve all problems.
