17,318 Newly Infected, 28 Die From Coronavirus in Serbia

28 people died from the consequences of the coronavirus infection in Serbia in the past 24 hours, raising the total number of fatalities to 13,152, it was announced on the covid19.rs web-site on Jan. 19.

17,318 new cases of infection were confirmed among 36,434 tested people. 112 covid patients are on ventilators among the 2,619 people who are receiving treatment in hospitals. 1,484,516 cases of infection have been confirmed since the start of the epidemic in Serbia in 7,740,137 performed tests.

The director of the Institute for Pulmonary Diseases and Tuberculosis in Belgrade, Dr. Ljiljana Timotijevic, has assessed that the number of newly infected with the coronavirus would "rapidly" grow.

She said in an interview to RTS that the number of seriously ill patients, those who demand hospital treatment, was also growing. Timotijevic added that people who went to winter resorts were now appearing among the infected the most, as well as the unvaccinated.
