The Serbian Speaker, Ivica Dacic, said on July 1 that Serbia was militarily neutral and that it would continue to uphold this policy regardless of the war in Ukraine, for which it expected full understanding from the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and its members.

“Only by employing a militarily neutral status can Serbia fully protect its vital interests – stability and economic prosperity,” Dacic said at the opening of a conference called, The Position of Serbia in the Euro-Atlantic Community.

Dacic said that the theme of the conference, organized by the Euro-Atlantic Council of Serbia in the Serbian legislature, “Is very important, given the complicated international circumstances.” ”Serbia’s position on the war in Ukraine has been clear and hasn't changed since day one, based on respect for the principles of international law,” Dacic said.

Ukrainian Ambassador to Serbia Volodimir Tolkac invited Serbia to join EU sanctions against Russia to support a military victory by Ukraine and do what it can to make that happen, as Ukraine winning the war would be the victory of all of Europe. The ambassador said that Euro-Atlantic integration was the vital interest of both Ukraine and Serbia.
