Prosecutor Bojana Savovic told the March 15 edition of the Danas daily that she was threatened by attorney and Serbian Progressive Party MP Svetozar Vujacic during a March 13 panel discussion at the Belgrade University School of Law. His exact words were: “You’re in for it.”

“He’s a member of parliament, was a consultant to the police minister [when the office was held by Aleksandar Vulin]; the media have mentioned his cousin [Marko Miljkovic] is a criminal. He said that to me publicly, in front of everyone, to which I responded into my microphone that it was terrible for him to say such things,” Savovic told the paper, adding that she would be reporting the incident to the State Prosecutorial Council’s ombudsman for prosecutorial independence.

Savovic and her fellow-prosecutor Jasmina Paunovic were removed from the investigation of malfeasance at the state-owned power company Elektroprivreda Srbije (EPS) right after the arrest of several individuals suspected of embezzling over USD7.5 million from the company.
