A March 23 meeting at the National Bank of Serbia (NBS) officially opened talks between the Serbian officials and a mission from the International Monetary Fund (IMF). The Serbian delegation is headed by NBS governor Jorgovanka Tabakovic, while Finance Minister Sinisa Mali and his associates also participated in the conference.

The IMF mission, led by Donal McGettigan, will be staying in Belgrade until April 4.

According to a statement issued by the NBS, the purpose of the visit is to perform a first review of the results achieved by the stand-by arrangement the IMF granted Serbia on Dec. 19, 2022, namely: the implementation and efficiency of Serbia’s economic policy measures amidst the current challenging international circumstances; the prospects of Serbia’s economy for the near future, and the actualization of the economic program supported by the stand-by arrangement.

Serbia’s previous consultation with the IMF took place in 2021.
