The employees of the Media Information Agency (MIA), the state-owned news agency of North Macedonia, held a warning protest on July 27, demanding higher salaries.

“For the first time in MIA’s existence, the employees are forced to protest to exercise their rights,” stated an employee of the agency, Marina Ilievska, who is a member of the Managing Board of the Indepentend Union of Journalists and Media Employees.

She stressed that the warning protest was due to the “ignorant attitude” of the government of North Macedonia towards the demands for higher salaries, in keeping with the Collective Contract and harmonization with the cost of living. Ilievska added that MIA had been waiting for several months for the demand for higher salaries to be placed on the government’s agenda.
