Branimir Nestorovic, the main candidate of the We – The Voice of the People ticket, said on Feb. 21 that he has no wish to become a minister nor for his movement to become part of the ruling structures at all cost. He also reiterated that they will support none of the contenders for forming a majority in Belgrade’s local assembly either.

“We don’t intend to join the government immediately. We’re still very small, and are only just forming a party. We want to create a strong movement over the next two, three years, which will then be able to participate in the government. Because when you are small and a minority partner to a large, powerful party, that party swallows you up,” Nestorovic told the latest edition of the Politika daily.

Nestorovic also repeated that most of his ticket’s aldermen will join neither the regime nor the opposition in the Belgrade Assembly, but rather that his movement will use the repeat local election, should it take place, as a springboard for strengthening itself.

We – The Voice of the People has six representatives in the capital’s assembly, of which two have cut ties with the movement and are advocating a coalition with the Serbian Progressive Party and Socialist Party of Serbia.

Said assemblyman and assemblywoman are enough for the regime to form a majority government in Belgrade, but the Progressives chose not to do this at the assembly’s Feb. 19 constitutive session, postponing it instead in hopes that the rest of Nestorovic’s representatives would join their ranks.
