Serbia has never been under more international pressure over Kosovo and the March 27 meeting of the Political Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe regarding Kosovo’s admission to that organization is only one example of such pressure, Defense Minister Milos Vucevic, who is also the leader of the ruling Serbian Progressive Party, said on March 27.

Speaking for the RTS public service, Vucevic stated that this latest development was pushed by the countries spearheading Kosovo’s unilaterally declared independence and whose current goal is to finalize the process of Kosovo’s recognition.

“The session of the Committee is the first step. The Council of Ministers [of the EU] will likely pass a final decision on admitting Kosovo to the Council of Europe in May,” Vucevic said.

The minister of defense further expressed his incredulity that a state without sovereignty would be admitted into the CoE, adding that in doing so, the Council would be violating its own principles along with international laws.
