The Center for Democracy Foundation (CDF) appealed on April 29, the annual World Day for Safety and Health at Work, for a strengthened effort to pass a Health and Safety at Work Strategy in Serbia, and an action plan for its implementation.
"The alarmingly high number of workplace injuries in Serbia necessitates that all responsible stakeholders consistently apply regulations in this area, and that ongoing reforms in the field of occupational safety and health be more effectively continued," the Foundation said in a press release.
A report by the Administration for Occupational Safety and Health suggests that 1,322 workplace injuries were recorded in Serbia in 2023, of which 14 were fatal and 1,308 serious.
"The workplace injuries included in the report were reported by employers, the reasonable assumption being that the actual number of injuries could be higher than the official statistics suggest," the CDF pointed out.
