The newly appointed Serbian Minister of Internal Affairs Ivica Dacic, who served in the same office from 2008 to 2014, said on May 4 that the ministry's main objectives would be to ensure a high level of security in Serbia and to crack down on crime and corruption.

He told Prva TV that the Ministry of Internal Affairs had to ensure a high level of security for people in Serbia so tragic events like last year's mass shootings -- at the Vladislav Ribnikar elementary school in Belgrade on May 3, 2023 and in the villages of Dubona and Malo Orasje near Mladenovac on May 4, 2023, never happen again.

"We have a lot of work to do, but I'm looking forward to it. You're changing frequencies. This is now a different frequency compared to the Foreign Ministry (2014-2020, 2022-2024), speaker of the parliament (2020-2022), prime minister (2012-2014), but it's going back to what I used to do," Dacic said about the offices he has held.

Dacic, who until May 2 was minister of foreign affairs, commented on the announced admission of Kosovo into the Council of Europe saying that there was pressure on Kosovo Premier Albin Kurti regarding that matter.
