On May 8, Construction, Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Goran Vesic signed a protocol on understanding and collaboration with CRRC Changchun Railway Vehicles Co. Ltd. thereby ordering nine electric trains capable of travelling 120 km/h.

The Chinese company was represented by its steering committee head, Liu Changging, who, along with Vesic, signed the document at the Serbian Government Headquarters. Afterwards, Vesic stated that the event is momentous for the country’s railway service because it marks the beginning of the development and modernization of Belgrade’s rapid transit system.

The minister emphasized that the vehicles were commissioned to upgrade Srbijavoz’s fleet as well as to provide trains for the newly built line connecting Zemun Polje with the Nikola Tesla Airport and the future National Stadium and to better connect downtown Belgrade and the city suburbs with the 2027 Expo.

Vesic went on to say that all of the trains ordered will be built at the CRRC factory in China and should be delivered by Dec. 31, 2026 at the latest.
