Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic reiterated on May 16 that the main purpose of passing the U.N. resolution on Srebrenica is not “improving regional relations” but rather to achieve the abolishment of Republika Srpska, to see the verdict on Serbia’s responsibility for the genocide revised, and to enable a law suit for war reparation.

Ahead of the scheduled May 23 vote in the United Nations General Assembly regarding the International Day of Reflection and Commemoration of the 1995 Genocide in Srebrenica resolution, Vucic told the RTS public service that those pushing the adoption of the document will “formally win” but that “Serbs will remain proud.”

The president further expressed his confidence that China will vote against the resolution, which he discussed recently with his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping. According to Vucic, Xi told him that “everything being done against Serbia is disgusting.”

Hungary will definitely vote against the document, while Slovakia and Cyprus “certainly won’t support it,” Vucic said.

“Serbia’s opponents are Berlin, London and Washington,” Vucic explained, adding that their goal is “not mourning the victims” but rather “punishing an entire nation.”
