Calls by certain opposition representatives for civil disobedience and the boycott of state institutions over how the local elections were held are “an idiocy” which will never happen, leader of the Socialist Party of Serbia and Minister of Internal Affairs Ivica Dacic said on June 6.

“What does it mean to reject a seat [in the local assembly]? One person may reject it, but the seat will go to the next person on the list. Are two hundred of them actually going to resign? No. Someone will step up and say: ‘I’m glad I got my turn, I didn’t expect to,’” Dacic told Pink TV.

The statement comes in reaction to Get Going for Change leader Savo Manojlovic asking the opposition to leave all state institutions and calling for civil disobedience should the regime not accept the opposition’s claimed victory in Nis.

As interior minister, Dacic said he is keeping abreast of the protests and maintains the numbers of people involved are low. He went on to call this “logical” since the public’s support for the regime “by far” outmatches support for the opposition.
