Lord George Robertson, a former general secretary of NATO, has said that Kosovo's security is important to that organization and that there is no danger of war.

Robertson, who recently visited Kosovo on the 25th anniversary of "Kosovo Liberation Day," told the Pristina wire service Kosovapress.com in an interview on June 15 that he absolutely condemned the armed attack last year in Banjska, in the Zvecan municipality.

Calling for those responsible to be brought to justice, Robertson stressed the need to put an end to violence in the region and change the image of the Western Balkans from that of a problem region to one contributing to broader European security.

According to him, this is the reason why Kosovo's security is exceptionally important to the West and to NATO. Though he said there was no risk of a new war in the region, Robertson expressed concerns that, if Russia succeeded in its military aggression against Ukraine, the Western Balkans would be one more area where Russian President Vladimir Putin would stir the pot, mentioning that Russia was interfering in the region through cyber warfare.
