The seven members of We Won’t Give Jadar arrested over blocking the Loznica-Zvornik railway have been released from police custody and will be facing charges, attorney Dusan Filipovic told the Prvi Prvi na Skali website on July 8.
The environmental activists were arrested on July 7 after blocking the railway near Loznica for two hours in protest over the possibility of Rio Tinto resuming its lithium mining project in the Jadar River Valley.
Get Going for Change director Savo Manojlovic warned the public that the Constitutional Court will be holding a July 11 vote on whether or not to void the Cabinet’s 2022 decision which abolished the Jadar spatial plan. If said decision is thrown out, Rio Tinto will be free to continue its Jadar operation.
At the Loznica Police Station, BETA was told that charges have been filed against all seven apprehended activists. Five have been accused of obstructing law enforcement officers, while two have been cited for attacking police.
