EU spokesman Peter Stano on Aug. 6 said that unilateral and uncontrolled moves of Pristina were leading to escalating the situation in Kosovo, adding he was expecting from Pristina to reconsider its decisions.
“We are expecting (the Kosovo government) to reconsider its decisions and address this issue (postal services) within the EU-facilitated Dialogue, and present proposals for resolving potential negative impacts these decisions could have on citizens in Kosovo’s north,” Stano said.
Commenting on the closure of nine branch offices of Serbia’s national postal service Posta Srbije in Kosovo’s north, Stano said that under the 2013 Agreement, Belgrade and Pristina had agreed that postal services would be discussed at a later stage in the Dialogue.
“Unfortunately, what the Kosovo government did on Aug. 5 was an absolutely uncoordinated and unilateral move with very negative impacts on the citizens in Kosovo’s north, This move represents a breach of the agreement on the Dialogue,” Stano said, adding he believed that “this has to be very clear to those in Pristina making such decisions.”.
In the evening on Aug. 5, the European External Action Service (EEAS) said that the EU was ready to include postal services issue on the agenda of the next Dialogue meeting.
