BIRODI: Not a Single Municipality Has Formed Anti-Corruption Bodies

On Aug. 19, Serbia’s social research think tank BIRODI called on the government’s Council for the Promotion and Development of Civil Society to determine the local relevance and readings of a report issued by the Chinese Foreign Ministry regarding non-governmental organizations supported by the United States’ National Endowment for Democracy (NED).

According to BIRODI, Serbian media have claimed the report indicates that members of local NED-supported NGOs are in fact “foreign hirelings” and “CIA spies.”

“We call on the Council to determine the objectivity of the reasoning based on the facts and sources presented, as well as the objectivity of the interpretation of the conclusions reached, in the report,” BIRODI said.

On Aug. 17, President Aleksandar Vucic announced that the “highly political, anti-state non-governmental sector” has, this year alone, received EUR78 million to topple his regime, while the total sum invested in the sector over the past seven to eight years amounts to billions of euros.
