Strengthening military cooperation, securing resources for using lithium potential while preserving the environment, as well as joint economic development - those are the most important fields in U.S.-Serbia relations, Democratic Party Congressman Eric Swalwell has said.
California's representative in the U.S. Congress believes that intensifying military cooperation is very important and that the U.S. and Serbia can offer each other much more than is the case with Russia or China.
The existing and future relations between the United States and Serbia are limitless and have been developing continuously over the past decade, said Swalwell, adding that Serbia had proved to be an important partner in the area of security with regard to the U.S.' top priority - the events in Ukraine. He further said that the U.S. needed to be realistic and try to mitigate other influences. The best means of that are "our freedoms, our economy and values. They are much more aligned with Serbia than is the case where Russia and China are concerned," Swalwell told the Voice of America, on the day the U.S. and Serbia signed a strategic agreement on cooperation in energy.
As for the decades-long dispute between Serbia and Kosovo, Swalwell said that he expected the parties to the process to implement what had been agreed.
