Serbia Procures Russian Fighter Jets and Tanks: EUR300 Million for Weapons and Equipment
Serbia ranked 37th among the world’s 40 largest arms importers, while Ukraine ranked first, according to a report by the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) published on March 9.
Serbia’s share in global arms imports increased to 0.6 percent in the 2021–2025 period from 0.2 percent in 2016–2020 - a rise of 195 percent. China accounts for 61 percent of Serbia’s arms imports, followed by France with 12 percent and Russia with seven percent.
Ukraine is the world’s leading arms importer, accounting for 9.7 percent of global imports, followed by India with 8.2 percent and Saudi Arabia with 6.8 percent, according to the Institute’s data.
The Institute also said that, after Ukraine, the largest arms importers in Europe were Poland and Britain.
