The New Democratic Party of Serbia announced on Sept. 25 that the entire parliamentary opposition, at the initiative of this party, submitted a request supported by 90 MPs to hold a parliamentary session on Kosovo and Metohija, along with a bill on the representation and protection of Serbia's national interests in Kosovo.
"The current government's policy towards Kosovo has failed, and it is necessary to involve the Parliament of Serbia, both in drafting a political platform for the next round of negotiations with representatives of the provisional self-government institutions in Pristina, and in reporting once the talks have been completed," the Party said in a press release.
The opposition has also requested the Serbian speaker to schedule the session as soon as possible, and permit a debate about the topic "discussed by European and other international organizations, but not by the Parliament of Serbia."
"Any delay in holding the session, while continuing the current policy, could lead to further disastrous consequences for the lives and safety of people and the security of their property in Kosovo and Metohija, as well as for the security of the country and the operation of its institutions and organizations," the Party went on to say in the release.
