Members of the Serbian parliament on Sept. 30 adopted a revised budget for 2024, with revenue of RSD2,173.4 billion -- 132.5 billion, or 6.5 percent, higher than the original budget.

The revised budget envisages raising the 2024 fiscal deficit from the originally planned 2.2 percent of the gross domestic product to 2.9 percent of the GDP due to a planned increase in budget expenditures by RSD198 billion.

Budget expenditure was raised from RSD2,237.9 billion to RSD2,436.3 billion.

After voting on the revised budget, the MPs also passed a bill to amend the Law on financial aid to families with children.

The amendments envisage child benefits for each child born starting from Jan. 1, 2024. The amounts are RSD500,000 per first child in a one-time payment, RSD600,000 per second child in 24 monthly installments, RSD2,280,000 per third child in 120 monthly payments, and RSD3,180,000 per fourth child in 120 monthly payments.
