Serbian Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic said at the Horgos border crossing after meeting with his Hungarian counterpart Sandor Pinter on Oct. 14 that there were no plans at present to open a large number of migrant shelters anywhere, including Subotica, as the number of migrants has dropped considerably.
According to him, the Serbian Interior Ministry will monitor the situation and respond if needed, but families, women with children and unaccompanied children will be provided with everything they need.
Dacic stressed that cooperation between the Serbian and Hungarian police was at a high level and that it was thanks to that cooperation that the number of attempts at irregular border crossings had declined considerably in both countries.
Pinter told journalists that he divided migrants into the well-intentioned and ill-intentioned.
He went on to say that the well-intentioned, especially families, women with children and unaccompanied children would get aid from the state, but that "we won't help" those who pelt the border police with stones and rods.
Pinter called cooperation between the two countries' police forces "harmonious and successful" and said efforts would be made to reduce wait times at border crossings and accelerate the flow of traffic.
