The president of the Democratic Party, Zoran Lutovac, stated on Nov. 20 that protection of the public interest was a priority for the citizens, activists and opposition representatives who have protested in Belgrade and Novi Sad.
Lutovac, who participated in the blockade of Branko’s Bridge in Belgrade, told BETA that there, the interest of the public was being protected by defending the Old Sava Bridge, while in Novi Sad, the members of his and other parties and activists were doing the same.
In Novi Sad, opposition members of the Serbian parliament and of the Novi Sad City Assembly blocked the gate of the building where the court and prosecution are located for the second day in a row, demanding the punishment of those responsible for the death of 15 people at the Railway Station and the release of the demonstrators who have been arrested at earlier protests.
Branko’s Bridge in Belgrade was blocked for around 40 minutes on Nov. 20, in protest against the devastation of the Old Sava Bridge, which is being defended by activists of the initiative “The Bridge Stays” with support of a number of opposition parties. “We have come here from different political and ideological organizations, rallied around the desire to protect the interest of the public,” Lutovac said, adding that Serbia had to be put in order as a democratic state, so that free and fair elections could then be held in such a country.
