Serbian Parliament speaker Ana Brnabic has said that MPs will most likely vote on the 2025 budget on Nov. 27, accusing the opposition of wanting to see a civil war break out.
Speaking to state public broadcaster RTS on Nov. 26, Brnabic said that opposition MPs had damaged the parliament interiors and had pulled out microphones, stressing she would try to see to it that they were punished for what they had done.
She also said that the opposition wanted a civil war and had no understanding of separation of powers. “The legislative branch cannot say who is responsible for a tragedy, it is the duty of the judiciary. They are not conversant with the fundamental principles of separation of powers. They would like to be the government, prosecutors and judges all in one,” Brnabic noted.
Opposition MPs, according to her, do not demand justice, but are rather taking away the institutions from the hands of Serbia’s citizens.
After numerous incidents and interruptions due to scuffles between MPs of the ruling and opposition parties, the parliament sitting concluded around 3 pm on Nov. 25, with the agenda adopted in a few minutes and without a debate.
