Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said on Dec. 2 that economic collaboration with Italy is immensely important for Serbia and that, hence, Serbia should do more to attract investors from this EU country.
“We’ve elevated the volume of [trade] between Serbia and Italy to over EUR5 billion annually, but I’m not particularly happy. In the near future, our job is to surpass Albania, which is Italy’s number one [trade] partner,” Vucic told a forum titled Serbia – Nord Est Italia – Regional Business Networking, held at the Serbian Chamber of Commerce.
The president highlighted the fact that Serbia recently received an investment-grade credit rating and is the second-fastest growing economy in Europe.
Vucic went on to say that Serbia will focus its attention on the Belgrade-Trieste route as of 2026, and will create immeasurably better conditions for further investments from Italy.
“We also need further knowledge, to educate professionals for our administration and Italy can help us in this endeavor,” the president concluded.
The forum, attended by the representatives of 115 businesses from both Serbia and Italy, was organized to promote the potential for deeper economic collaboration and ties between these two markets.
