European Union membership at the cost of renouncing its claim on Kosovo and Metohija is unacceptable to Serbia, Minister Without Portfolio Nenad Popovic, who is in charge of international economic collaboration, stated on Dec. 9.
“Serbia should strengthen its cooperation with BRICS as an organization, as well as each of its member countries individually. These are, without a doubt, friendly countries which understand our policy of remaining sovereign and independent and are simultaneously rapidly developing and creating a distinct power hub in the international arena,” Popovic said in an interview for the Vecernje Novosti daily.
According to the minister, “amidst a Euro-integration process which is very complicated and has an undefined end date, Serbia must not deny itself the possibility of building international partnerships that may help [the country protect] its national interests.”
