On Dec. 10, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic will be visiting Germany, where he is set to discuss lithium mining in Serbia with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
Vucic and Scholz will visit German state Saxony, where they will meet with the chief of the Saxony Mining Office, Bernard Kraemer, according to a release from Vucic’s Office.
In Freiberg, home to the Saxony Mining Office headquarters, the two officials will also attend the presentation of a lithium mining plan within Zinnwald Lithium project.
Portal Politico Brussels was the first media outlet to report on Vucic’s Dec. 10 visit to Germany and his meeting with Scholz about “sustainable extraction of lithium.”
The portal recalled that in Belgrade in July, Vucic and Scholz had agreed that Serbia would be supplying lithium to the EU for production of batteries for electric vehicles, which had triggered “a mass movement focusing on concerns surrounding lithium mining and associated environmental impacts.”
