Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic assessed on Dec. 19 that the summit of the European People’s Party (EPP) and the Western Balkans in Brussels represented an important step toward the further stabilization of the region and its liaising with the European Union.
“It is extremely important that the EPP, as the biggest and most influential European party organization, supports cooperation with the region, especially in the context of facing common challenges and working on the prosperity and better life of all our citizens,” Vucic wrote in a post on Instagram.
He stated that the position of the European People’s Party also bore particular weight in the process of decision-making in EU institutions. “Their understanding of circumstances in the Balkans and support to the enlargement policy provide a special incentive to our European integration and reform processes. Therefore, this meeting is an important step toward the further stabilization of the region and its liaising with the EU. Although we live in difficult and turbulent times, the meeting with EPP leaders shows decisiveness and a desire to continue our joint work on the realization of the vision of a stable and unified Europe,” he added.
Ahead of the start of the summit, Vucic met with the president of EPP, Manfred Weber. “I pointed out that Serbia was working with dedication on fulfilling the criteria for EU membership and that we would continue the reforms and dialogue with our European partners in order to secure a better future for all our peoples,” Vucic stated.
